Earl Cochran, Jr. "Baby Earl" is a 27-year-old 6'5, 290-pound native of Bessemer, Alabama. Born April 19, 1981. Earl is the son of Earl Cochran, Sr. and Exter Cochran. He has one sister (Sadie) and two brothers (Harvey and Reginald). His nephew, Anthony Speight, is starting quarterback at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama.  Earl graduated from Jess Lanier High School in 1999. He attended College at Alabama State University as a Computer Information Systems major. Earl is currently a Defensive End in the National Football League for the Houston Texans.

Earl started playing football at the age of five while attending Jonesboro Elementary School. His passion for the sport was born with little league football. The first little league team he played with was the Eastern Valley Packers. He continued to play each year as he was growing up. After playing with the Eastern Valley League, he began playing with the McAdory League and later with the Bessemer Tiger League. Earl also played little league baseball until he reached middle school and then continued to play throughout middle and high school.

After much success with little league football, Earl continued to play football throughout his middle school years at Davis Middle School under head football coach Billy Woodham in 1993 and 1994 (7th and 8th grade).

Earl played high school football at Jess Lanier High School (1995-1999) under head football coach Carroll Cox. He was a four-year letterman in football at Jess Lanier and was named Defensive Player of the Year in 1998. He was also a four-year letterman in baseball. While in high school, he was a coach for the Bessemer Tigers for two years. Earl Graduated from Jess Lanier in 1999.

Earl was very fortunate and blessed to have been offered a full four-year scholarship to Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. While at Alabama State, he played football under head coach Ron Dickerson his freshman year and head coach L.C. Cole his remaining years as an Alabama State Hornet in the South Western Athletic Conference (SWAC).

During his collegiate career, he was very productive and one of the better pass rushers in the SWAC during that time and one of Alabama State's top defenders. He had 173 tackles (71 solo) 48.5 tackles for a loss and 26 sacks. Additionally, he broke up 8 passes, forced 5 fumbles and recovered 7 more during his collegiate career with the Hornets. Earl's nickname on the football field was "The Show" this name was given to him by one of the coaches for outstanding plays that he made time and time again. Earl was a Second-Team All-Southwestern Athletic Conference selection his senior season. He played at 6'4, 225-pounds finishing with 62 tackles (25 solo), 18 tackles for a loss and 9.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles. As a junior, he was a First-Team All-Southwestern Athletic Conference selection and led the conference in sacks with 8.5 and was second in tackles for a loss, notching 19 for minus 87 yards. In 2001 he was named Defense MVP of the Magic City Classic held in Birmingham, AL. He recorded 10 tackles (7 solo), 5 TFLs (20), 2 sacks (8) and 1 forced fumble in the 35-0 win over Alabama A&M.

2003 - Green Bay Packers
July 14, 2003, the Green Bay Packers signed Defensive End, Earl Cochran, as a free agent. Earl suffered a left shoulder dislocation in a July training camp practice. He landed on season-ending injured reserve in early August and subsequently underwent corrective surgery a week later. Earl spent his entire first year on the sidelines due to the shoulder injury. The next season, prior to training camp, he was released by Green Bay on July 26, 2004.
   
2005 - NFL EUROPE - Amsterdam Admirals
In March of 2005, Earl was assigned to the NFL Europe League with the Amsterdam Admirals as a free agent. During the NFL Europe Admirals 2005 Season, Earl played in all 10 regular season games and started on two occasions. Recorded 21 tackles, 3 sacks 2 passes defended and 1 blocked punt as a member of the World Bowl-winning Amsterdam Admirals in 2005. Recorded 2 tackles and 1 sack in the World Bowl win over Berlin Thunder. The World Bowl is equivalent to the NFL's Super Bowl in America. Earl finished tied for second on the team with 3 sacks.
   

2005 - Minnesota Vikings
On June 20, 2005, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings. He played in the pre-season games and was released by the Vikings on September 4, 2005. He was called back by the Vikings to their practice squad on October 19, 2005 and later released on October 25, 2005 from the practice squad.
   
2006 - NFL EUROPE - Amsterdam Admirals
In March of 2006, Earl returned to Europe to play for the Amsterdam Admirals. During the NFL Europe Admirals 2006 season, Earl played in all 10 regular season games and started on nine occasions. Recorded 51 tackles 5 sacks, and 1 pass defense as a member of the Admirals 2006 team. Cochran led the Admirals with 5 sacks and was third on the team with 51 tackles. In the World Bowl 14 game against Frankfurt Galaxy, he started and recorded 5 tackles and 1 pass defense. Cochran was third in the league with 5 sacks (team high). Cochran's natural ability to coach has always formed him into a team leader and made him a team captain for the Amsterdam Admirals 2006 Team.
   
2006 - HOUSTON TEXANS
On June 1, 2006, Earl signed with the Houston, Texans. He played in all 4 pre-season games and registered 8 tackles (7 solo) 2 sacks and 1 fumble recovery. The Texans released him on September 3, 2006. He was called back and signed by the Houston Texans to their practice squad on November 15, 2006. He was activated to the active roster on December 28, 2006. He played in the season finale on December 31, 2006 against the Cleveland Browns and registered 2 solo tackles as a reserve Defensive End.

 
   

2007 - HOUSTON TEXANS
Earl re-signed with the Houston Texans on March 28, 2007.  Played in 15 games, starting one...totaled a career-high 25 tackles, 19 solo, along with his first-career sack, first-career forced fumble and fumble recovery, and four passes defensed...recorded one solo tackle against Kansas City (9/9)...registered a solo special teams tackle at Carolina (9/16)...was inactive against Indianapolis (9/23)...contributed one tackle at Atlanta (9/30)...had one pass defensed against Miami (10/7)...notched two solo tackles at Jacksonville (10/14)...tallied three solo tackles against Tennessee (10/21)...played but did not record a tackle at San Diego (10/28)...notched two tackles, one solo, at Oakland (11/4)...had two solo tackles, one pass defensed and one fumble recovery against New Orleans (11/18)...made one tackle at Cleveland (11/25)...registered three tackles, two solo, at Tennessee (12/2)...recorded two solo tackles, one QB hurry and his first career sack for a six-yard loss of QB Luke McCown against Tampa Bay (12/9)...had two tackles, one solo, against Denver (12/13)...established a career high with five tackles, four solo, two passes defensed and his first career fumble recovery at Indianapolis (12/23)...started for the first time in his pro career and had one solo tackle against Jacksonville (12/30).
 

2008 - HOUSTON TEXANS
Earl re-signed with the Houston Texans on March 1, 2008. Inactive at Pittsburgh (9/7) and at Tennessee (9/21)...played defensive end and contributed on special teams at Jacksonville (9/28)...did not register a tackle...played on special teams and at defensive end vs. Indianapolis (10/5) loggin two solo tackles...recorded four tackles vs. Miami (10/12), one for a loss...played at defensive end and on special teams vs. Detroit (10/19)...recorded one solo tackle...played at defensive end and on special teams vs. Cincinnati (10/26)...posted one pass defensed...registered four tackles at Minnesota (11/2)...sacked Minnesota QB Gus Frerotte for an eight-yard loss in the second quarter...it was Cochran's first sack of the season and second of his career...played at defensive end vs. Baltimore (11/9) and totaled two tackles, including his second sack of the season...made the first start of his career at Indianapolis (11/16) and registered four total tackles...placed on the reserve/injured list with a toe injury (11/19), ending his season after Week 11.
